Yucky Germs...

(This is Bella with a fever of 105.8. Very, very scary!)

You won't believe the kind of week we've had. It's one of those weeks I would read about on other blogs and think to myself..."Gosh, I m so glad I haven't had to go through that!"

I shouldn't of thought that! Because right now I am smack dag in the middle of "one of those weeks."

It all started last Sunday. Bella woke up with a fever. I didn't think much of it because ever since she has been in nursery she is always getting some sort of little virus. However we kept her home from church since she did have a really runny nose and she wouldn't be able to go to nursery with her systems anyways. Come Sunday night things got much worse.

Around 10pm Isabella's fever went up....drastically. What started out as a fever of about 101 was now 105. Her body was so hot it burned my arms to hold her. She was extremely listless, and Motrin rotated with Tylenol was not bringing her fever down. I was really worried so I kept her in our bed that night so I could keep an eye on her. That was the first of many sleepless nights to come.

I took Bella into the doctor on Monday. I was informed hat most likely this was some sort of a virus, and if her fever went up to 106 we were to immediately take her to the hospital. We went home. Bella was still acting pretty much like herself....running around, jumping, and dancing all through the house. At 4pm her fever spiked. Again we were dealing with a fever of 105.6 which continued for several hours. finally breaking sometime in the wee hours of the morning but never coming down below 102. This would continue for the next 3 days. With each day Bella's energy level would drop dramatically. She wouldn't eat anything but thankfully she would drink. Her fever remained around 103 spiking all the way to 105.8.

Come Thursday I took her back into the doctor. This was her sickest day. Bella layed in my lap all day. She cried anytime she moved. By now her lips were so cracked and bleeding because her nose was so runny and stuffed up she had been breathing through her mouth for 4 days. This time the doctor said she had a nasty ear infection in both ears and most likely influenza. I was grateful for the diagnoses because now at least we could start her on some antibiotics, which would in return get this little girl feeling better.

In the meantime Jared had started getting a really sore throat and was coughing like crazy. Friday came and Jared was really sick. He went into the doctor and came home with the news that he had strep throat as well as pneumonia.

You have got to be kidding me!

It was late Friday night that I started to get a little tickle in my throat. I knew it was only a matter of time before I to, became ill. After all, for the past 5 days I had been coughed on, sneezed on, vomited on, and averaged only about 5 hours of sleep at night.

Come Saturday I felt like crap. My throat hurt so bad and I was developing a cough. Jared was really sick in the morning so I called and begged my mom to watch Bella while I went into the doctor. Bella was still sick but at least her temperature was staying normal.

While at the urgent care the doctor came into the room...took one look at me and said..."wow...enough said...you look really sick!" So apparently I looked awful...but I felt awful so I really could care less how I looked. He diagnosed me with a viral upper respiratory infection. I think my sheer exhaustion form the prior week added to me feeling so horrible.

So here we are, it's Sunday. Jare is feeling a bit better. But it comes and goes. Bella is feeling a bit better but is still really clingy, her cough is awful and every once in a while she will throw up all the mucous crud that is collecting in her lungs. She is eating again which is good because she has lost 4 lbs. Then there is me. My throat is still really raw but my cough is getting better thanks to the prescription cough medicine the doctor gave me.

I am trying to see the bright side to all of this. despite the fact that our quarterly enrichment activity is on Tuesday (and I am in charge of it since I am the enrichment counselor) and I haven't been able to do ANYTHING for the past 7 days. Things I guess could be worse. I am reminded of a time when my mother-in-law told me when her kids were young all five of them came down with the flu as well as her and my father-in-law was away on business. Thankfully at least I have had Jared here. He's been a big help, even with pneumonia, I don't know what I would have done this week with out him!

(This is Bella today, so I guess we are getting better...slowly but surely.)

Today I am especially grateful for the following:

Health insurance

Great prescription benefits

priesthood blessings

Oh my goodness Holly! You poor thing! What a week to go through. I wish I was close to you and could help you out. Those fevers are so scary in little kids. I'm glad she's starting to feel better. And I hope you and your hubby start feeling better too.

Something I learned from the ER doc: You can give kids and take yourself Tylenol and Motrin at the same time. I hope you feel much much better.

How awful!! It's so hard to have one of your kids sick, not being able to "make it better" for them. :( Glad to hear things are on the upswing!!
