I have always known there will come a time when my child will want to be able to dress herself. I have thought over the many interesting arrangements of clothing she may choose to wear and about how I would pick my battles carefully about this issue. I just never thought this battle would start this soon.
Isabella is 19 months old and her "expressing independence" stage is in full swing. Right now clothing is starting to become an issue. Whether it's the lack there of, or her desire to wear everything in her closet at the same time, makes no difference. It is a battle none the less. A battle I choose not to fight.
However, the upside to this is the hilariousness of it all. These days Bella can be found running wild through the house in only a diaper(because she loves to take her clothes off) and a pair of shoes. Why she always wants to have shoes on beats me. Then there are the times when the more outfits on ones body the better. Yesterday she had on a t-shirt and stripped pants throughout much of the day....then came the ballet outfit over the shirt and pants....then she insisted on having a pair of shorts on over the ballet outfit which was over the shirt and stripped pants. She looked lovely!! I couldn't help but laugh.
So....If you happen to see me and my daughter dressed in HER chosen attire for the day, please just realize; I care more about my daughter, than I do about what she has decided to dress herself in....for now. In a few years I am sure we will have to re-address this issue.
