Dare I Say It...

Almost a year ago we started potty training this feisty little girl.

Basically...it didn't work. She wasn't ready...I wasn't ready. We would have a few days of total progress, only to be met with a few days of complete Resistance. This continued for several months. All the while I am hearing about people who potty train in a week. Seriously??

So here we are almost a year later but I have some very happy news...

I can honestly say that I am 99.9% sure that Isabella is as fully potty trained as any three year old can be.

Isabella has been in big girl panties 24 hours a day...yes, even at bedtime...for 7 days straight and the only accident she had was running full speed en route to the bathroom.

She will wake up at night and tell me she has to go potty..she will go into the bathroom all by herself, do her business, then come back out and finish playing.

So do you want to know our potty training secret???

WE GAVE UP TRYING SO HARD!!!

After I got pregnant I was so sick. Physically, I couldn't do it. So when I started feeling better, everyone in the family seemed to now be on the same page, and it just kinda happened with lots of encouragement, stickers, pee pee party dances and then finally taking that huge leap of faith and going out in public with no pull-ups on.

So really this post isn't intended to brag about how cool we are cuz Bella is potty trained...hello it took us a year! It's to congratulate our little girl on this huge accomplishment despite the mistakes her parents made in getting her to this point.

And for now I am going to relish in the fact that we get three whole months before diapers are reintroduced into the Kunz household and the process starts all over again:)

Congrats!! What a great feeling to be out of diapers for a few months! If it makes you feel any better, the process has taken about 5-6 months with Audrey and I still don't feel comfortable taking her out of the house in anything but a pull up. I don't understand how people can do it in a week. To me it seems to make sense that it's a process that the child needs to make and accept. But anyway, congrats again! That's really exciting!

He he...I love the last line about enjoying 3 months without diapers! Yay for miss Bella!!! What a big girl!! As for mistakes, I don't think there are any. It just depends on being ready like you said...everyone has to get on the same page and then it just all comes together! Plus, it makes it even harder if the kiddo is stubborn! ;) I completely understand!!! :) So, good job Bella, and MOMMY!!

See, it didn't take a year, it just took the amount of time from when she decided she was ready until she was trained herself. I learned this the hard way with Ethan too. I pushed and pushed, had a potty thrown at me, gave up. Then one day, months later (3 and a half years old) he decided it was time and trained himself in a week. That's the secret to a week. Wait till they're ready, and let 'em do it themselves. I'm still waiting for Elliot to decide to be ready. Hopefully before he's four. Congrats!

Congrats...now tell Bella that she needs to help her friend Nathan through the process!

Potty Training, and basically everything about kids has to be on their own time. Glad you were patient with her.

Isn't it funny how many of us spent a year trying to train our 1st child only to realize it's going to happen when they are ready anyway? The joys and refinement of parenting! Some days I wonder who is learning more...my kids or me?

Great for Bella and you. One trick that always worked for me. When you want to leave the house and Bella tells you that she doesn't have to go potty. Make her sit on the potty and turn on the water, it works every time. Enjoy your time without diapers. It is a blessing!
